How to apply

 

Enjoy the Library’s rich print and digital collections, lively programs, and comfortable study spaces in the heart of Rome, at the first floor of the Palazzo Antici-Mattei. The Library owns more than 50.000 titles, both books and periodicals. All the material found in this library refers to the culture and civilization of the United States, referring especially to History, Literature, Politics, Law and Foreign Relations. The collection includes rare and early printed books, periodicals and academic journals, as well as a growing number of electronic resources.

Become a member to use the services provided by the Library (distribution, loan, photocopies, electronic resources…)

 


 

Daily Entry: has a fee of 10 € and allows users to use the Reading Room, with Free, secure WiFi and desktop computers, consult all the bibliographic resources of the Library (print and electronic), make photocopies (in compliance with the copyright law). A maximum of 5 books at each distribution can be asked until h 12.00.

External loan is not permitted.

 


 

Annual Library Card: has a fee of € 50,00 and gives access to all the services of the library. Library members are allowed to use the Reading Room, with Free, secure WiFi and desktop computers, consult all the bibliographic resources of the Library (print and electronic), make photocopies (in compliance with the copyright law), borrow CSA Library books, ask for books or articles through the OCLC Interlibrary Loan Service (please note that this is a charged service).

People living outside Rome shall add € 30,00 as a money deposit for possibile mailing expenses (books, photocopies); the remainder will be returned at the expiration date.

Students, Faculty and Staff of the affiliated Universities can register free of charge

 


 

Annual CSA Membership: has a fee of € 150,00. The CSA Members have several benefits:

  • receive, on request, the publications of the Center for American Studies;
  • use of the Reading Room, with Free, secure WiFi and desktop computers;
  • borrowing privileges from the Library’s collection of over 50,000 books, current newspapers and magazines;
  • ask for books or articles through the OCLC Interlibrary Loan Service (please note that this is a charged service);
  • activate a personal account to remote access to digital databases including e-books, digital magazines, scholarly resources;
  • participate in Annual Member’s Assembly.

VISITING SCHOLARS

Visiting scholars are eligible for three-month membership. This card has a fee of € 30,00 and allows to use all the in-house facilities except the ILL and Loan services.


OPENING HOURS

Monday to Thursday: from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Friday: From 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.


CIRCULATION DESK

The Library is not open shelves. So, books and journals have to be requested using the request forms. Up to three items can be asked at one time.

Circulation desk hours:

Monday to Thursday: 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 am, 3:00 pm , 4:00  pm

Friday: 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 am


LOAN SERVICE

Members may borrow up to two books at one time.

Reference materials, journals, theses, Interlibrary Loan books and rare books are not for loan. Borrowing time is 30 days, with a maximum renewable time of 15 days, depending on current reservations.

Returning books overdue

For returning books late we charge € 0,25 per title per day.


REPRODUCTIONS

Readers must comply with copyright law and licences whenever they copy works in copyright. This includes photocopying books and journals, as well as downloading electronic publications and pages from online databases.

Items published before 1930, reference materials, rare or damaged books may not be reproduced.

Fees: € 0,10 (A4), € 0,20 (A3)

ATTENTION:

We recommend to the visitors who resides outside Rome, to please verify library hours and days before travelling long distances.

The Centro is closed for Italian holidays and other occasions as required. Please call to confirm our schedule.
